Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is all set to take the field of recruitment by storm. In the past we have seen a lot of different articles covering AI. Recruitment software applications are adopting AI in most innovative ways. It may not be wrong to say, the dominant theme in HR and specifically in recruitment is likely to be AI. But we need to understand what is it that AI brings on the table for a recruiter? How does it make the recruiter’s job easier?

The answer to this question is multi pronged. We can first start by understanding why at all the process of hiring or talent acquisition needs disruption. As a matter of fact the world is increasingly becoming more dynamic. In the information age, paradigm shifts occur at the pace of blinking of an eye. Competitions come from highly unexpected quarters. In this business environment, organizations have to be nimble to ensure they respond quickly to the changing market dynamics.

In this context, hiring the right talent is the beginning of making a future ready organization. Those days when talent acquisition used to start with the raising of Man Power requisition are gone. This is the age of proactive recruiting, recruiters must be able to predict future manpower requirements and plan their recruitment pipeline accordingly. Also, the process of hiring has to be much faster and yet personalized.

Coming back to the impact of AI in hiring, some of the issues mentioned above are ideal problems to solve using AI. Automating bulk of activities in the hiring process using machine learning algorithms is not new. More and more hiring activities getting automated will free up the recruiter’s time for strategic activities. We all have heard of AI algorithms for matching relevant candidate profiles to a Job, we have also known AI being used for assessing candidate fitment, mining candidate database for getting the suitable candidate etc. All these are humongous tasks for a human being which a computer can do much faster and with much higher accuracy.

All this is great, however the area wherein AI might be of biggest help for the recruiter is helping them give a personal touch to every candidate and recruiting manager. Intelligent chat-bots can disruptively change the way manpower requisitions are raised and candidates are sourced and engaged with. These AI driven chat-bots can be a personal assistant for the recruiter, the hiring manager and the candidate alike, giving them the right information as and when needed. AI powered chat-bots have the potential to make the hiring experience highly personalized. Through interactive chats, one can create multiple touch points with the candidates all along the hiring process and even after that. Candidate feedback can be taken, analyzed and insights presented. All this can be done with no or minimum human intervention.

To conclude, hiring the right talent for any organization is crucial. Those who get their hiring strategy right are likely to thrive in this dynamic business environment. Adopting AI for winning the “war of talent” might just prove to be the critical factor for any organization’s success.
